Chris,

This is a great post, so I had to tweet it. It's such a good reminder. No matter how much and how well I listen, there is always room for improvement. Truly listening saves so much time, energy and creates connection where disconnection is the other possibility.

Silence is golden, especially when speaking. In other words, pausing and listening to see how what we've said has landed is important, and many ideas can come in that silence to both people.

I look forward to following your blog...

Best,

A great reminder to each of us, especially those of us in marketing, who are managers, who do presentations -- and who are parents. * In marketing we must remember that listening to our customers is far more important than talking at them. * As managers, most of us are not nearly as good at listening to our employees than we are at giving them direction. * Presenters often forget -- or don't know -- that an occasional moment of silence is important to allow the audience to process what's been said; and it can create dramatic effect. * Lastly, as parents, we need to listen to our kids, not just speak at them; and as any parent knows, that is so difficult. Who among us has not said, "Because I told you so..."
