Earlier this month, I posted two videos of Paddy Hirsch, a Senior Editor for American Public Media’s Marketplace that I thought were great illustrations of how to present complex financial transactions in a simple to understand manner. Paddy explained how Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO’s) and Credit Default Swaps work and what their role has been in the worldwide financial crisis. Paddy doesn’t rely on PowerPoint to help him along. Instead he uses a good old fashioned pen and whiteboard. Well, Paddy has returned to explain yet another aspect of the current financial crisis in terms we can all understand. Check out his latest video called “Getting Naked in Short Selling“. Aside from the compelling content, I love Paddy’s presentation style. It’s very down to earth and very memorable. Thanks to Paddy, I can sound really smart when I talk to my friends about the financial meltdown!

Wow, Paddy has a new fan in me! Actually he reminds me of my own anti-PowerPoint presentation style..except that instead of a whiteboard I use a large sheet of paper, and instead of it being on a wall its usually flat on a desk or table, and more often than not I have to make my sketches upside down because my client is on the other side of that desk or table…well…Paddy and I both use the same black marker though…Thanks Chris - I sent the link to several people!
Sure glad things aren’t “quite” as bad here in Canada….yet….

Yup, Paddy is awesome. Complex stories, simple language…simple presentation. Gotta love going analog.
