OK, I thought this was a joke when I first heard about, but apparently it’s true. Google Labs has developed an application called Mail Goggles that runs within GMail that “will check that you’re really sure you want to send that late night Friday email”. Basically, you tell GMail when you want to be “double-checked” about sending an email, and GMail gives you a little math test to make sure you’re sober enough to send the message. The test looks like this:

If you pass the test you can send the email. It’s really easy to enable and configure Mail Goggles. First, go to Settings in GMail and select the Labs tab. Scroll down the page to find and enable the Mail Goggles application. It looks like this:

Once you’ve enabled it, go to the General Settings to adjust the schedule and level of difficulty you’d like Mail Googles to use to “test” you.

It’s that easy! So, if you’ve sent emails that you’ve later regretted sending, you owe it to yourself to check out Mail Goggles. Now only if they had something like this for blog posts!!!
