What are CIO’s thinking…or are they?

OK, maybe it’s just me that finds this funny, but a recent survey by Stelligent of CIO’s found the following:

  • – 72% of CIO’s said that NO, they did not have a solid understanding of Agile Development Methodologies.
  • – 72% of CIO’s said YES, they are open to adopting agile methods.

Now I don’t know about you, but if I don’t have a “solid understanding” of something, I’m generally not inclined to be open to adopting it!  I think I’d do a bit more research first.  Could this be the buzzword effect: “We have to adopt agile…it’s the latest and greatest” while in their head they’re thinking “What is agile anyway? I keep hearing about it”.

These same CIO’s went on to add their opinions on the importance for organizations to adopt agile methods:

  • – 29% said extremely important, 50% said important, and 14% said somewhat important.

Hmmm…”It’s very important that we adopt something I don’t really understand.”  Again, maybe it’s just me, but I find these results rather funny…or scary depending on your point of view!
